September 11 — a day we must always remember…

Photomontage of Ground Zero days after the attacks. Military guards, smoldering ruins and the clock stopped

I created this photomontage from photographs that I took at Ground Zero in the days after the WTC attacks of 9/11.

It’s hard to believe that almost 10 years have gone by since that awful morning. The photomontage above was selected to be part of “Here is New York : A Democracy of Photographs” an exhibition that was initially set up in a storefront in response to the World Trade Center tragedy. These images were also on exhibit at The New York Historical Society. While no longer a physical exhibition, all the images reside in an online gallery as a visual record of the events of 9/11. My image in the gallery number 7075.

Here is New York is also a part  of the September 11 Digital Archive, a consortium organized by the American Social History Project at the City University of New York Graduate Center and the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University in Virginia.  The September 11 Digital Archive is the major repository on the Web of digital materials related to the 9/11 attacks.

I created this montage at the time, as a way of expressing my personal anger, disbelief and sorrow at the magnitude of the events of 9/11. Now, years later, I still have trouble understanding how this could happen and I pray that as we remember those lost on 9/11, that we move forward in peace but never forget.

Summer is not over yet!

Block Island Harbor

Sailboats off Block Island

I love summer. Warm sunny endless days. Short sleeves and flip flops. BBQ’s and beaches. As the last weeks of August are upon us I find myself wanting to hold off the inevitable onset of fall. Wait! I’m not ready to start wearing socks again! I haven’t done all that I promised myself I would this summer. After a four days of rain and cool weather this past week, I could almost hear autumn knocking on the door. But summer is not quite ready to depart and the sun has finally come out again and the forecast for the upcoming week is blissfully warm and sunny, which fits perfectly into my upcoming vacation plans!

Tomorrow morning I am off to the Hamptons for the beach and a BBQ with my ski friends and then on Monday I take a ferry from Montauk to Block Island where I will spend two nights (three days) on my friend’s boat! From the pictures on the internet (see above) it looks beautiful!  Lucky me! Stay tuned and I’m sure my own photos will follow soon!

Good News…CHASE did the right thing!

I just wanted to post an update regarding the ATM fraud with my mom’s CHASE checking and savings accounts. CHASE finally did the right thing and has refunded all of my mother’s stolen money plus ATM fees to both of her accounts. They finally agreed to do this after I sent a few letters to Jamie Dimon, the CEO of CHASE. What I learned from this experience is that when you go to the top, you can usually get things done . A lot of persistence helps too! Thank you CHASE for stepping up and doing the right thing!
