Earth Day 2010

Today is Earth Day. A day to pay homage to mother earth and renew our pledge to conserve her resources. With all the natural disasters that seem to be playing havoc lately, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, we need to stop and consider how much of these “acts of nature” are actually the result of humans mismanagement of or resources. There are plenty of things that we can do to preserve the environment that we take for granted. Conserve energy. Turn out lights and computers when not in use. We’re all guilty, myself included. Don’t print out every email. Use recyclable tote bags to cart your groceries, buy green products, don’t litter.  Treat the earth, it’s land and oceans as you would your own home — because it is. Make a conscious effort today, Earth Day to start walking the walk. Mother Earth will thank you for it.

My Earth Day design is available on items that will help you get started: travel mugs and Sigg water bottles to avoid disposable coffee cups and plastic water bottles, tote bags for groceries and, of course, t-shirts. Check out all the Share the World styles and products!

Take Only Pictures

There is a saying among divers, “Take only pictures, leave nothing but bubbles.” I think the original quote was more land based (…leave nothing but footprints) but the ecological message of both sentiments is the same. The oceans will only remain a beautiful and natural resource if we, as visitors respect the reefs and its inhabitants. In keeping with this I’ve added a new shop to my line of dive t-shirts and gifts. See a couple of the images below and if you want to see the rest of the available styles and products, please visit theNothing but bubbles section in my shop Wear My Dive Art!

Ocean Conservation

As a scuba diver and inhabitant of this planet I feel very strongly about the need to conserve our oceans resources. The oceans cover 70 percent of the earth’s surface and compose 97 percent of the earth’s water. It is estimated that 80 percent of all life on earth is found under the water. With this in mind, I am introducing Seafriends, a new design series For every design purchased within this group I will donate a portion of the proceeds to two very important ocean conservation causes:
• The Shark Research Institute (SRI), a multi-disciplinary non-profit scientific research organization, was created to sponsor and conduct research and promote public awareness of sharks and their vital role in the marine ecosystem. SRI works to correct misperceptions about sharks and stop the slaughter of 100 million sharks annually.
• Conserve Our Ocean Legacy is a non-profit, non-partisan campaign to build support for ocean and fish protection. Pollution, habitat destruction, mismanagement and overfishing have impoverished our ocean resources, and have caused more than 90% of the world’s large fish, including tuna, swordfish and marlin to disappear from our oceans.
Please visit my shop, be a sea friend and help me make a difference!
