Life is Balance Tennis T-Shirt went to the US Open

Tennis is one of the few spectator sports that I actually enjoy going to. I usually would rather be out there playing a sport than sitting on the sidelines watching. However when it comes to the US Open I really enjoy the whole experience of being at the Tennis Center, walking around the grounds and watching the the fans and, of course, watching the matches.

Last night I first saw Serena Williams beat Flavia Pennetta in the Women’s Quarterfinals and then watched as Nadal won his match against Monfils in the men’s Quarterfinals at the US Open. What a great night for tennis! I even wore my Life is Balance tennis t-shirt for the occasion! I got my photo taken in front of a giant tennis ball, courtesy of Lexus.

The Nadal/Monfils match was poetry in motion. It was one of the most athletic, exciting matches that I’ve seen in a long time. They both played incredibly well, but I think Rafael Nadal just out lasted Monfils in stamina.

Why did the swans cross the road?

Why did the swans cross the road?

This past Monday I took the day off and stayed out in Quogue on Eastern Long Island. My friend Judy and I went for a nice bike ride along the beach on Dune Road. We were riding along when Judy stopped to make a phone call and while waiting for her I happened to notice a very strange site: a whole family of swans were crossing the road from the bayside to the ocean side! They really didn’t care about the oncoming traffic – it stopped for them of course! What a sight to see: two grown parents, all white and regal looking, with 6 youngsters following behind!

They made it all the way to the dunes were trying to figure out how to get over them to the ocean when Judy and I decided to continue our bike ride. Later that day we came back out that way to go kayaking in the bay. On our way out we remarked that there were a few swans in the bay. Probably not the same ones we thought. When we came back to land our kayak on the beach where Judy keeps it, believe it or not the entire swan family from that morning was sitting on the beach waiting for us! What are the odds of that?

Woodstock: Has it Really Been 40 Years?

Woodstock copy

It’s hard to believe that the 40th anniversary of Woodstock is this summer. I was 14 during the summer of 1969, spending the summer at Pineacres Camp in the town of Wallkill, NY. A little known fact is that back then, Wallkill was supposed to be the site of the Woodstock Festival. I remember that me and my bunkmates were all excited to think that right in our backyard there would be this wonderful happening concert! Oh the plans we had… to camp out and listen to all the great bands! Much to our disappointment the venue was changed to Max Yasgur’s 600 acre farm in the town of Bethel. It seems the folks of Wallkill just didn’t want a huge rock concert taking over the town.

And so Woodstock happened at what is now called Bethel Woods and I remained in Wallkill dreaming about what it would have been like. I don’t know if I would have lasted all three days of rain, mud and rock and roll but it sure would have been a great story to have been able to tell.

My Woodstock Anniversary design is at the top of this post. Click here to view this design on t-shirts, mugs, hats, tote bags, buttons and many other cool gift items. Peace, Love and Flower Power!
